Dougie Freedman steps down as Crystal Palace sporting director, considering bigger role in Saudi Arabia.

Ufabet Sport reports that Freedman, 50, has played a number of roles at Palace, including as a player, manager and in his current role, where he has held the reins since 2017.

A source close to Friedman said the Scottish strategist has been offer the sports chairman job at Diriyah Corporation, which owns Saudi second-tier team Al-Diriyah. 

The role is believe to be responsible for polishing performance and instilling work philosophies into the seven sports under the care of the Diriyah organization. 

At this time, there is no official confirmation that Friedman has accepted the position.

The former Scotland striker is understand to have been press by Saudi Arabia for months, with the process being accelerate in recent weeks. 

He is expect to remain in a general advisory role at Palace throughout the summer before flying out for good.  

Palace chairman Steve Parish said Freedman had been “instrumental in everything we have done over the past eight years”.

Freedman add: “To be leaving the club with a squad full of exciting talent led by an excellent manager, I truly believe the foundations are in place to be built upon.”
